The Addiction
The Addiction
It’s insidious
It creeps in gradually
Like a burglar
It steals your ambition
It all starts with an innocuous
“Wanna try it”
Then it’s let’s try again
And again
And again
Soon it’s a habit
A fun habit, kinda
Now after 40 years
It’s a bummer
It dulls the mind
Makes me lethargic
It’s not enjoyable anymore
Yet my mind
Craves it
My body aches
Without it
Yet life seems better
Depriving myself of it
I can run better
Write better
Am more alert
So I have concluded
No matter how you
Look at the situation
I am an addict

Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday
Happy Birthday
To my friend
Who’s half a world away
Miss Bekkie transcends
The distance between us
Her joy and love of life
Causes no fuss
And is rife
With caring and tenderness
Towards her pals
No matter their locales
So here’s wishing
All the best
To my friend
Miss Bekkie
May God keep you
In the palm of his hand,
Bless you and keep you safe.
Have a great day ☺☺

Mothers
Mother’s
Matrons, so dignified and sober
Orderlies, when injury occurs to a child
Therapists, a counselor when needed
Helpers, always willing to lend a hand
Educators, teaching children to live and grow
Rescuers, whenever pets or kids need saving
Saintly, as all mothers are
These are a mother’s lot
To serve and protect everyone she’s got
In her family
And she does it uncannily
A mother’s love
Goes far and above
Normal emotion
Showing her singular devotion
So on this day for mothers
Let us not think of any others
Except for our moms
And sing psalms
Of praise to spark
Glory and fame for our Matriarch

My Last Stand
My Last Stand
Snorting and running
I am free
Yet still caged
I run anyway
Suddenly pinpricks
Points of pain and agony
More pinpricks
I see red
Stopping and pawing the ground
I charge
The red swooshes
Aside
More pain and agony
Deeper more hurtful
Than before
The stabbing makes
Me angry
My vision is blurred
With anger
And hurt
I charge again
More pain
Deeper this time
I feel my life blood
Draining from my body
I keel over
And breathe
My last breath

Connections
Connections
Connected, yet disconnected
Society is subjected
To much input
Yet society is hard put
To making the human connection
Our world is wired
Society is mired
In electronic gear
Hidden in our own sphere
Of reflection
Let us not forget
That our best asset
Is out gift of talk
And take stock
Of our electronic affection
Put down the electronics
And get back to frolics
With our fellow humans
Before it ruins
Our human connections

Springtime
Springtime
Springtime
A time of renewal
A time of rebirth
A time of death
Springtime
Trees bud
Blossoms bloom
Grass grows
Mother Nature renews
Springtime
Fish spawn
Wildlife births
Bugs hatch
Mother Nature is reborn
Springtime
Winter dies
Our Lord is crucified
Jack Frost exits
Giving way to Mother Nature

The Queen
The
Queen
There
once was a haughty queen who
Liked
to dress in shades of blue
Escorted
by bugs
Who
seemed to be slugs
She
tended to act like a shrew
She
had a fish for a servant
Who
could be very observant
A
lack of water
Meant
he forgot her
As
his near death was emergent

Spring
Spring
Spring
is in the air
Robins
are everywhere
Flowers
are blooming
Perfuming
The
air
Sitting
in my chair
Enjoying
the sun
Praising
the holy one
For
the rebirth of his creation
And
our salvation
Through
Jesus Christ, his only son

I Wish
I Wish
I wish I were a quicker wit
Then I might not feel like a twit
Sometimes
I wish I were rich
Then life might not be a bitch
It would be a life of riley
I wish everything was easy
Life would be so breezy
But that would be no fun
I wish wishes came true
Then I would not be so blue
Most of the time
But if wishes were true
Then that would skew
Our view
Of the zoo
Called life

Death
Death
Was
thinking about death today
In
this peculiar way
Not
of friends or family
Of
those I would know
The
passing of my cyber friends
Was
the thought
That
perturbed me
I
would be sad
To
lose my poetry buds
Their
beautiful words
Would
be no more
It
would be a sad day
Indeed
The
world would be deprived
Of
one who brought joy
With
words
To
so many
My
thought was
How
would I know
Of
their demise
When
our connection
Is
through poetries eyes
On
the Gplus site
So
all of you
Poetry
cyber friends
Please
take care
For
it’s sad to say
That
one day
You
will not be here
To
bring joy
To
us all
And
I for one
Will
rue that day
With
great sorrow

Brigid
Brigid
Saint,
miracle worker
Beloved
by all Ireland
Never
one to be a shirker
She
inspired and
Was
a server
To
all, even those who shunned
Her,
never dulling her fervour
For
our Lord Jesus Christ, the ultimate server
All
praise and glory To St. Brigid

Mom
Mom
Mom you were
My rock
My inspiration
My first love
A deeply loving caring soul
There is not a day that goes by
That I do not miss you
That I do not think of you
You
Adopted a baby boy
Gave him a family life
Taught me how to love
Taught me right from wrong
Taught me about God
Helped make me the
Man I am today
Were the love of my life
Until I met my wife
There is not a day that goes by
That I do not miss you
That I do not think of you
You were the kindest
Most gentle person
I have ever known
Man I never knew
How much I would miss you
Until you were gone
I love you Mom
Always have
Always will
There is not a day that goes by
That I do not miss you
That I do not think of you
May the Lord
Welcome you into
His eternal glory
And ease all your
Pain and suffering
Rest in peace Mom
Until we meet again
Someday

Pearly white moon
Imprisoned in the lariat
Nowhere to go
Groaning I pull in

Faceless
Faceless
Took
a trip
On
the hallucinogenic highway
Riding
in a spaceship
My
eyes were blind
Depriving
me of my sight
Yet
my mind
Wandered
all thru the night
Butterflies
flit
Into
the unlit
Recesses
of the brain
A
rowboat appeared
Then
disappeared
Going
down the drain
Then
from the deepest pit
Death
was seen
Outlined
in the light
The
highway ended
With
a bump
As
it bended
Towards
the dump
I
woke from
My
trip
On
the spaceship
Vowing
never to succumb
To
the hallucinogenic highway
Nonetheless
I looked
In
the mirror
Overcome
by fear
I
had become faceless
